“The exploit lands before the fix even ships,” says John Vecchi, CMO at Mitiga, a leader in zero-impact breach prevention for cloud, SaaS, identity and AI.

The mean time to exploit is now negative seven days, Vecchi tells Mitiga’s Field CISO Brian Contos on the latest episode of Mitiga Mic, a new series on the Cybercrime Magazine Podcast. In 2018, defenders had about 63.

Vecchi and Contos get into what changed and what Mitiga’s place in Anthropic’s Cyber Verification Program has to do with it. The CVP is like a background check for defenders. It lets vetted security teams use Claude’s full reasoning for the attacker-minded analysis the models block by default, while dangerous capabilities stay blocked for everyone, permanently.

“You can’t patch your way to safety fast enough now. The math doesn’t work,” says Contos.

Keep preventing. You still need that layer, but assume the attacker gets in, and start measuring yourself by blast radius instead of the perimeter. Or as Vecchi says, “the gap is the strategy.”

A new episode of Mitiga Mic airs every month on the Cybercrime Magazine Podcast.

    ·

An academic study has disclosed a “widespread class” of security vulnerabilities impacting 4G and 5G core networks that, if successfully exploited, could trigger denial-of-service (DoS) attacks and even session hijacking, allowing an attacker to seize control of a user’s network session. The findings have been released by a group of researchers from Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University

Device code phishing – the abuse of the OAuth 2.0 device authorization grant to steal access tokens – has evolved from a niche red-team technique to an industrial-scale threat in under six months. Designed for input-constrained devices like smart TVs, printers, and so on, the device authorization login flow has been adopted by a wide range of apps and use-cases that it wasn’t originally

  • Ransomware Killers Overwrite Security Process Memory Without Terminating Applications

    ·

cyber security, Cyber Security News, Ransomware

Ransomware operators are increasingly deploying “ransomware killers” that surgically overwrite the memory of security processes instead of simply terminating them, allowing encryption to proceed. At the same time, endpoint tools appear to run normally but are effectively blind. This evolution marks a shift from crude process-killing to stealthy, in‑memory tampering that targets EDR/AV telemetry, kernel […]
